Best Schools in West Point, Utah: A Parent's Guide

If you are looking at homes in West Point, Utah, the school question comes up fast — usually before the second showing. West Point sits in northwest Davis County, between Clinton to the north and Syracuse to the south, and every public school here is part of Davis School District. There is also one public charter school inside the city.

This guide lists every school that serves West Point — name, grades and address, each one linked to its own website — and then answers the questions families actually ask me: how boundaries work, how to check a specific address, how open enrollment works, and whether schools really move home values here.

Every public and charter school serving West Point, Utah

Six of the seven are physically inside West Point. Syracuse High School is the exception — it sits about four miles south in Syracuse, and the City of West Point lists it in its own resource directory as the high school serving residents here.

How Davis School District is organized

This trips up nearly every family moving here from out of state. Davis School District does not use the middle school model. It runs on a three-tier structure, and ninth grade is part of junior high, not high school.

The practical effect: a rising ninth grader who would be a high school freshman in most states will be a ninth grader at a junior high here, and will change schools again for tenth grade. If you are relocating with a teenager, that one detail is worth knowing before you write an offer.

The three elementary schools

West Point Elementary

West Point Elementary is at 3788 W 300 N, in the older, more established part of town where the lots run larger. The Wildcats are the school's mascot. The office number is 801-402-2750.

Lakeside Elementary

Lakeside Elementary sits at 2941 W 800 N and is the largest of the three, with roughly 864 students. The Lions are its mascot, and the office number is 801-402-2900. Because Lakeside is close to the Clinton line, its boundary is one of the ones I always tell buyers to confirm rather than assume.

Island View Elementary

Island View Elementary is the newest of the three, at 385 S 4500 W on the west side of town, out toward the wetlands and the Great Salt Lake shoreline that give the school its name. It serves around 820 students and can be reached at 801-402-5000. It was built to absorb the new subdivisions going up on that side of West Point, so it is the school most often attached to new construction here.

Two junior highs, both in town

A city of roughly 11,000 people with two junior high schools inside its own boundaries is unusual, and it tells you how fast this corner of Davis County has grown.

West Point Junior High

West Point Junior High, at 2775 W 550 N, serves grades 7 through 9 and is the larger of the two, at roughly 1,551 students. It offers AP coursework and Project Lead The Way, the district's engineering and applied-science pathway. The Warriors are the school's mascot, and the office number is 801-402-8100. Its boundary reaches beyond West Point — families on the west side of Clinton send their students here too.

Horizon Junior High

Horizon Junior High opened on August 15, 2025, at 801 S 4500 W, and it is the first three-story school building in Davis School District's history. It was paid for by the 2022 Building Generations bond that Davis County voters approved, it serves grades 7 through 9, the mascot is the Ducks, and Brett Sims is the principal. The office number is 801-402-9300.

Horizon shares 4500 West with Island View Elementary, a few blocks apart, which is convenient if you have one child in each.

Syracuse High School

Syracuse High School at 665 S 2000 W in Syracuse serves grades 10 through 12 and is one of the largest high schools in the district, with about 2,566 students. The Titans play in navy, forest green and white. The office number is 801-402-7900.

Syracuse High is the high school the City of West Point names for its residents. That said, Davis County high school boundaries do not follow city lines — my own guide to Clinton schools shows Clinton students split across three different high schools — so if you are buying on the far edge of West Point, confirm the high school assignment for that exact address rather than assuming.

The charter option: Monticello Academy

Monticello Academy's West Point campus is at 3110 W 300 N, in a building fully renovated for school use in 2019–2020. It currently serves grades K–7 and is expanding its junior high seats for the 2026–27 school year. The number is 801-417-8040.

Charter schools in Utah are public and tuition-free, and they do not use attendance boundaries — any family may apply, regardless of address. When applications exceed available seats, admission is by lottery. That makes a charter a genuinely different kind of option from a boundary school: your street does not qualify you or disqualify you, but it also does not guarantee you a seat.

Dual language immersion near West Point

No school in West Point currently hosts a dual language immersion program, but two are a short drive south in Syracuse, and West Point families can apply to them through open enrollment:

• Syracuse Elementary — Chinese immersion, grades 1–6, 1503 S 2000 W, Syracuse
• Buffalo Point Elementary — Spanish immersion, grades 1–6, 1924 S Doral Drive, Syracuse

Two things families should know before they plan around immersion. It starts in first grade, and placement is a lottery when applications exceed seats, with applications generally running February through March. Seats in the later grades open only occasionally and usually require the child to already speak the language. If you are moving here with a third grader, immersion is realistically not an option.

How do school boundaries actually work in West Point?

Davis School District draws an attendance boundary around each school, and your home address determines which schools your children are assigned to. The critical thing to understand is that these boundaries do not follow city lines and they do not follow subdivision lines. Two houses on opposite sides of the same street can be assigned to different elementary schools. West Point Junior High takes students from part of Clinton. Homes at the edges of West Point may be assigned differently from homes in the middle of it.

Boundaries also change. West Point has added an elementary school and a junior high in recent years because of growth, and every new school means the boundaries around it get redrawn. A boundary that was accurate three years ago may not be accurate today.

How do I check which schools a specific address feeds?

Ask the district directly, with the full street address in hand. Call Davis School District Student & Family Resources at 801-402-5159. If you are already a district family, you can also look it up through the myDSD portal. Calling the school office of the school you are hoping for works too — they will tell you whether a given address is inside their boundary.

Do this before your due diligence period ends, not after. It takes one phone call.

What is open enrollment, and when do I apply?

Utah lets families request a school outside their assigned boundary. In Davis School District this is called a boundary permit, and the process runs on a published calendar:

Existing district families apply through the myDSD portal under Tools. Families new to the district or coming from outside it should call Student & Family Resources at 801-402-5159. Kindergarten families apply directly through the school.

The honest caveat: a boundary permit is a request, not a right. It depends entirely on whether the school you want has room, and the schools people most want are the ones most likely to be full. If a particular school genuinely matters to your family, buying inside its boundary is the only version of this that is guaranteed.

Do schools actually affect home values in West Point?

Yes, but less dramatically here than in markets where one school is excellent and the one next to it is struggling. All of West Point's public schools are Davis School District schools, funded and staffed the same way, and the district's overall reputation is a large part of why families move to this corner of the county at all. You are not choosing between a good district and a bad one.

Where it shows up is in demand and days on market. Homes inside a well-regarded boundary, especially one with a newer building, tend to draw more showings and sell faster. New schools change this too: when Horizon Junior High and Island View Elementary opened, the neighborhoods around them got a fresh, uncrowded, walkable school — and that is a real selling point that did not exist a few years ago.

The flip side matters when you sell. If your boundary changed after you bought, the buyer pool changes with it. That is worth knowing before you price your home.

What should I ask when I tour a school?

• Is this address inside your boundary? Read them the full street address.
• Are you at, under or over capacity right now — and are you accepting boundary permits?
• Is a boundary study underway that could affect this neighborhood?
• Which junior high and which high school do your sixth graders go on to?
• Is there bus service to this address, or is it inside the walk zone?

That last one catches people out. A home just inside the walk zone means no bus, which in a Utah January is a real consideration.

Matching the right school to the right house

Most families start with a school and then go looking for a house, which is backwards from how the search usually has to work. West Point is a small city, seven square miles, and in any given month there may be only a handful of homes for sale inside the boundary you have your heart set on. Sometimes there are none.
