Best Schools in Woods Cross, Utah: A Parent's Guide

If you are shopping for a home in Woods Cross, here is something most buyers don't find out until late: a Woods Cross address does not automatically mean Woods Cross High School. Roughly one in seven homes in this city — the far west side — is zoned to Bountiful High instead. Same city, same mail carrier, different high school.

Four of my kids went through Davis School District, and before real estate I taught elementary music, so school buildings are familiar ground for me. This is the guide I wish buyers had before they fell in love with a house on the wrong side of a boundary line.

Every school name, grade level and address below came from Davis School District's own boundary maps and each school's own website, checked in September 2026. Boundaries do change, so I've also shown you exactly how to check any specific address yourself — including a worked example with two real Woods Cross addresses that land in two different high schools.

How school grades are organized in Woods Cross

Woods Cross is served by Davis School District, which splits grades differently than a lot of the country:

That means 9th graders here are still in junior high, and high school is only three years. If you are moving in from out of state, this catches almost everyone off guard.

Elementary schools serving Woods Cross

Two elementary schools sit inside Woods Cross itself, and two more in Bountiful pick up the eastern and southeastern edges of town.

How the map breaks down. Woods Cross Elementary covers the largest share of the city — the central and eastern neighborhoods. Odyssey Elementary takes the west side. Bountiful Elementary picks up a pocket along the eastern edge, and Adelaide Elementary the southeast corner near the North Salt Lake line.

One thing worth knowing about Odyssey: it is one of only three elementary schools in the entire district running a French dual language immersion program (the others are Foxboro and Morgan). That is unusual for a city this size, and for a few families it is the whole reason they buy on the west side.

Junior high schools serving Woods Cross

There is no junior high inside Woods Cross city limits. Every Woods Cross student crosses into Bountiful for grades 7 through 9.

Broadly: the southern part of the city feeds South Davis Junior High, the northern and central part feeds Millcreek Junior High, and the west side feeds Mueller Park Junior High.

High schools serving Woods Cross

Most of Woods Cross — call it five out of six homes — is zoned to Woods Cross High School, right here in town at 600 West 2200 South. It enrolled about 1,485 students in 2024–25 and runs a deep career and technical education slate (health science, IT, business and marketing, engineering, agriculture) alongside band, choir, orchestra and drama programs that compete at the state and national level.

The exception is the far west side of the city, which is zoned to Bountiful High School. In practice that means the neighborhoods off Mountain View Boulevard and Mountain Crest Drive, and the blocks around 1890 West through 2200 West between roughly 2050 South and 2425 South. Those same homes feed Odyssey Elementary and then Mueller Park Junior High, which is Bountiful High's feeder — so the whole K-12 path runs to Bountiful, not to the high school two miles up the road.

A note on the edges: a small handful of homes at the very north end of the city are zoned north instead — to West Bountiful Elementary, Bountiful Junior High and Viewmont High. It is a few addresses, not a neighborhood, but if you are buying at the top of town it is worth a check.

Two houses, one city, about a mile and a half apart, two different high schools. That is the whole point of this article in one example.

To run your own address:

1. Go to Davis School District's Planning page.
2. Click Find My Elementary School, then Find My Junior High School, then Find My High School.
3. Type the exact street address into each one and read the school it returns.

You have to run all three separately — there is no single lookup that gives you the whole K-12 path. If you want a second opinion, call the school's front office and read them the address. They do this all day.

Charter school option in Woods Cross

Legacy Preparatory Academy is a tuition-free public charter school in Woods Cross serving kindergarten through 9th grade, with a classical, values-based curriculum across two buildings:

• Elementary (Building 1) — 2214 South 1250 West, Woods Cross, UT 84087
• Junior High (Building 2) — 1228 West 2185 South, Woods Cross, UT 84087

Because it is a charter, Legacy Prep has no attendance boundary. Any Utah family can apply, and admission does not depend on where you buy. After 9th grade, Legacy Prep students move on to a district high school — Woods Cross High or Bountiful High, depending on their home address.

How do school boundaries actually work here?

Every address sits inside three separate attendance areas at once — one elementary, one junior high, one high school. They are drawn independently, which is why two neighbors a block apart can share an elementary school and split at the junior high. The district's planning department sets them, and redraws them when growth or a new building makes it necessary, so a boundary that is correct today is not guaranteed forever.

And nothing about a home purchase changes your boundary. Buying a house does not "get you into" a school. The address does.

Do listing sites get Woods Cross school boundaries right?

What is open enrollment, and how do I get my child into a school outside our boundary?

Utah has open enrollment, so you can apply to a school outside your boundary. Davis School District calls these boundary permits, and they are granted based on whether the school has room.

For junior high and high school, the district's published timeline runs:

For elementary, the window opens November 15 and runs through the end of first semester of the following school year, and there is no separate late-permit period the way there is at the secondary level. Kindergarten families have an extra step: you apply in person at the school you are requesting, and you must also register at your boundary school.

The practical takeaway if you're house hunting: check the district's "Open Enrollment Status Per School" list before you make an offer, and get the application in during the early window. A permit is never guaranteed, and I would not buy a house on the assumption that one will come through.

How does a charter school like Legacy Prep fit in?

Charter schools are public and free, but they sit outside the district's boundary system and run their own enrollment. If more students apply than there are seats, admission goes to a lottery, usually with preference for siblings of current students. Apply directly through the school, not the district. Because there is no boundary, a charter is one of the few school choices that is genuinely independent of which house you buy.

Is there a language immersion pathway in Woods Cross?

Yes, in French. Odyssey Elementary runs French dual language immersion, and the district's secondary French pathway continues at Mueller Park Junior High and South Davis Junior High, then on to Bountiful High School.

One honest caveat: in July 2025 the district was publicly reviewing the future of the French program at South Davis Junior High because enrollment had fallen into single digits, with consolidation or closure both on the table. If continuing in French is a reason you're buying in a particular part of Woods Cross, call the district and confirm what the pathway looks like for the year your child will enter it. Five-minute phone call, a lot of frustration saved.

How much do schools affect home values in Woods Cross?

More than most people expect, and in a specific way. Woods Cross is small enough that the high school line runs right through it, so two similar homes a mile apart attract different buyer pools — one set on Woods Cross High, the other on Bountiful High. When a boundary is in demand, homes inside it tend to draw more showings and sell faster, because the buyers who want that school can't get it anywhere else at any price.

That cuts both ways. If you're selling, your school assignment is a real selling point and it belongs in the listing — stated accurately. If you're buying, decide early how much a specific school is actually worth to you, because paying a premium for a boundary you don't care about is money you won't get back.

I don't put a percentage on it. Anyone who quotes you one for a city this size is guessing.

Which Woods Cross school is the best one?

I get asked constantly, and I don't answer it, because the honest answer is that it depends on your child. Test scores tell you a lot about the families a school serves and not much about how a school will treat your particular kid.

What I will tell you is what to compare: the size of the school, how far your child would travel, whether the specific program you care about actually exists there, and whether the culture fits your family. Those are things you can only learn by walking in.

What should I ask when I tour a school?

A short list that gets past the brochure:

• What is the average class size in the grade my child is entering?
• How many students transfer in on permits, and is the school currently at capacity?
• How does the school handle a student who is ahead in one subject and behind in another?
• What does the first month look like for a student who transfers mid-year?
• Which junior high and high school do most students here move on to?
• How do teachers communicate with parents, and how quickly?

Ask that last one of the front office staff, not the principal. You'll learn more.

Matching the right school with the right house

School boundaries are the reason I ask buyers about their kids before I ask about square footage. In Woods Cross especially, two houses that look nearly identical online can carry a different elementary school, a different junior high, and a different high school.

That's the part I can take off your plate: running the district's boundary lookup on every address you're considering, telling you plainly when a listing has the school wrong, and finding you homes inside the boundary you actually want.
