West Point sits in northwest Davis County between Clinton and Syracuse, running down to the eastern shoreline of the Great Salt Lake. Settled in 1867, it went by South Hooper and Muskrat Springs before incorporating in 1935 and taking its name from the military academy. The wetlands along its western edge are stopover habitat for migrating birds, so a meaningful share of the city will never be built on.
Everything else has filled in fast: 6,033 residents in 2000, 10,963 in 2020, almost entirely single-family. It is still not built out, which is what sets it apart. Lots run larger, the housing is newer, and builders keep opening phases — West Fields, Nielsen Crossing, Whitesides Place, The Preserve at Willow Bluff, Harvest Fields with its 55+ active-adult sections, and Westlake Estates out near 1000 North and 5000 West. Resale homes sit closer in, around the original town center on 300 North.
Three elementary schools sit in the city — West Point, Island View and Lakeside — feeding West Point Junior High on 550 North, all Davis School District, plus a Monticello Academy charter campus. High school is mostly Syracuse High, with part of West Point zoned to Clearfield High, so check the specific address.
Loy F. Blake Park is the centerpiece at 26 acres: splash pad, tennis courts, sand volleyball, ball diamonds and a veterans memorial. East Park adds a 0.61-mile walking loop and Bingham Memorial another half mile. Party at the Point fills it every Fourth of July, and Howard Slough puts Great Salt Lake marsh minutes away.
The commute is the quiet advantage. SR-193 starts here and runs east through Clearfield to I-15 and the Hill Air Force Base gates, and the West Davis Corridor opened in 2024 with its extension to 1800 North under construction. Clearfield's FrontRunner station is a few minutes east.
